The Middlesex Visually Impaired (VI) County team played an 8 a side, Twenty20 friendly fixture against RLSB/C4C on 19 February 2014 at the Middlesex Indoor Cricket School in Finchley.
The RLSB/C4C team are a group from the Royal London Society for the Blind whose training and match play programme is organised by Cricket for Change. The majority of the team players are adults and therefore the game was going to be a strong challenge for our very talented, but young, Middlesex group.
The day began with a practice session of skills and drills, getting all the players warmed up and ready for battle to commence!
RLSB/C4C batted first and reached a total of 124-5 from their 20 overs. Highlights of the innings was a well-constructed 46 from RLSB/C4C batsman Manub and 3-27 by Middlesex’s Harry Robinson.
After a short interval, it was time for Middlesex to begin the run chase. RLSB/C4C started well with a breakthrough delivered courtesy of B1 player Owaiz in the first over, brilliantly bowling one of Middlesex’s openers for a duck. An excellent 2nd wicket partnership worth 67 from Aaron Fitzgerald (21) and Callum Edwards (37) then followed, putting Middlesex in a strong position to win the game. Unfortunately wickets tumbled towards the back end of the innings and we were all out with 2 balls of the innings remaining, 18 runs short of the victory target.
Well done and congratulations to RLSB/C4C, thank you for the game and we hope you all enjoyed it. We certainly did and have also learnt a lot from the experience - already looking forward to the return fixture this summer!
