v Durham 03-04 Apr

Match Report Others 03 April 2017

Durham 306 all out

Durham won the toss in this two day friendly, and elected to bat first on the opening day.

On a bright and sunny day at Merchant Taylor's School the visitors made a steady start and at lunch went in on 97 for 1.

After lunch the Middlesex bowlers started to dominate and with four wickets falling in the afternoon session, Durham had reached 210 for 5 at tea, with James Franklin picking up two wickets, and Harry Podmore, Ollie Rayner and Toby Roland-Jones one wicket apiece.

The evening session saw the ball continue to dominate the bat as Durham were dismissed for 306 to signal the end of the opening day's play. Franklin, Rayner and Helm each finished the innings with a brace of wickets apiece.

Day one offered a good run out for the Middlesex bowlers, whilst day two would see the Seaxes at the crease.

Durham 306 all out

Middlesex 324 for 4

Day Two at Merchant Taylors' School saw Middlesex at the crease, and Sam Robson and Nick Gubbins looked in good nick, as they continued where they left off last season.

Nick Gubbins reached a half century before falling short of lunch for 53, whilst Sam Robson remained resolute and went in unbeaten on 33, with the score on 90 for 1.

The afternoon session saw Middlesex continue to dominate, despite some unfavourable overhead conditions which should have offer plenty of support to the Durham bowlers. Robson completed his half century before eventually falling for a fine knock of 75, but it was Ryan Higgins who stole the show in the afternoon, going in for tea unbeaten himself also on 75. The tea score was 222 for 3.

Middlesex ended day two on top, finishing the day on 324 for 4, with Ryan Higgins completing a wonderful century, before falling for 138. John Simpson continued where he left off in Abu Dhabi at the Champion County match, by hitting a terrific unbeaten 46.

A great two day workout for both batters and bowlers and next up it's a trip to Fenners to take on Cambridge MCCU.
