STUMPS ON DAY 1: SURREY 59 & 28-1; MIDDLESEX 281

FULL SCORECARD

At the close of day one here at Wimbledon, in the shadow of the All England Club, it looks like winning the toss was vital. Luckily Andy Balbirnie did just that and had no hesitation, under overcast conditions, in asking the home side to have a bat.

Gurjit Sanhu proved to be more than a handful on more than a handful of occasions and was twice on a hat-trick as he steamed through the batting side, taking the lions share of the wickets (7-31) before finishing Surrey off in 17 overs for 59 runs!

With the track misbehaving a bit and plenty of cloud cover, our batters felt that the way ahead was to be positive. This they did as they moved on, with no little help from Paul Stirling (72), to 281 at the end of the innings.

One Surrey wicket fell prior to play being halted for the day due to failing light.
