Sussex Sharks v Middlesex: Match Preview

over 8 years ago | Uncategorised

Middlesex's white ball inconsistencies came back to haunt them again on Saturday at the Ageas Bowl, when after securing a comprehensive 87 run victory against Kent on Friday at Radlett, they came crashing back down to earth with a huge bump in Southampton the following day in a horribly one-sided affair.

Middlesex's Jeckyl and Hyde white ball form is all that's holding them back in the shorter format, as on their day they're as destructive as any side in the country.

Without doubt the quality and talent is there within the squad, in abundance with both bat and ball, although a lack of consistency in both disciplines is a problem of ongoing frustration.

Whilst Middlesex were at least able get the first win of their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign under their belts against Kent last week, Sussex are still waiting to do so, and thus far have yet to be able to back up this season's impressive Twenty20 Blast form, with anything similar in the fifty over competition.

With Sussex playing today against Kent at Canterbury, by the time Middlesex head to Hove for tomorrow's clash, the Sharks campaign may well be up and running, although given that at the time of writing this preview the Spitfires are currently on 72 for 1, in pursuit of just 155 to win, it looks like the Sharks will still be searching for that first win when the Seaxes visit them tomorrow.

Middlesex have added Andy Balbirnie to the squad for tomorrow's fixture, so whether the coaches choose to mix things up in the starting eleven, after the disappointment of the Hampshire performance, will become clear tomorrow.

Middlesex have named the following 15-man squad:

Eoin Morgan (c), Andy Balbirnie, Nick Compton, Neil Dexter, James Franklin, Nick Gubbins, James Harris, Junaid Khan, Dawid Malan, Ravi Patel, Ollie Rayner, Sam Robson, Toby Roland-Jones, Gurjit Sandhu, John Simpson.
