WOMEN AND GIRLS CRICKET IN MIDDLESEX

Women and girls cricket in Middlesex continues to be an exciting growth area, with more schools taking part in our girls coaching and competitions, and more clubs offering competitive cricket opportunities for girls from U11 to U15, and open age group women's cricket.

With two flagship competitive leagues - the Middlesex Women's Cricket Championship for women's cricket and the Seaxe League for girls cricket - and our ever popular B20 cricket product offering fun, easy access cricket playing opportunities there really is something for everyone in Middlesex, from absolute beginner to county cricketer.

Girls Cricket (Under 16)

Middlesex Cricket delivers or supports the delivery of a wide range of opportunities for girls to learn to play cricket outside of the club environment.

CHANCE TO SHINE STREET

There are two girls-only Chance to Shine Street projects that run in Middlesex. Projects are located where there is no local offering of girls-only cricket in an effort to ensure that there is cricket available for all girls in Middlesex. Visit Community page for more details.

SCHOOLS COACHING

Middlesex work with clubs and community projects across Middlesex to use schools coaching to encourage girls to play the sport, compete, and make the transition from school sport to clubs and leagues. Delivery of school activity is done by a combination of Middlesex coaches and coaches from local clubs. Visit Schools page for more details. 

SCHOOLS COMPETITIONS

Competitions form a critical part of the schools programme in Middlesex. For many girls this will be the culmination of their involvement in the schools programme, while for others it marks a step between their school experience and joining a local cricket club.

CLUB COMPETITIONS

Girls club cricket in Middlesex continues to grow from strength to strength. To find a local club that offers girls cricket, go to our find-a-club page, and use the Women and Girls filter: FIND A CLUB.

SEAXE LEAGUE (GIRLS CLUB LEAGUE)

Seaxe Club girls

The Seaxe League offers girls club cricket competition as part of the wider Middlesex Colts Association competitions. The league is run at U11 (pairs incrediball), U13 and U15 (both hardball), split into two regionalised divisions. Games last 20 overs and typically run on Sunday mornings or mid-week evenings. 

Lady Taverners

The Lady Taverners Club Cup Competitions at U13 and U15 are overseen and administrated by the Lady Taverners. More information about this national competition can be found here: Lady Taverners Girls

Womens Cricket

MIDDLESEX WOMEN’S CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP

The Middlesex Women’s Cricket Championship is the Middlesex Cricket run league for women’s cricket clubs in Middlesex. The league emphasises participation and getting games played. A T20 league, games are organised on mutually convenient days of the week or weekend to allow clubs to fit the league around their players’ needs.

The MWCC games are played in coloured kit and with a pink ball to optimise visibility during evening games. The league is split into two regional divisions, the East Middlesex Division and the West Middlesex Divisions. The winners of these leagues progress to the county final.

B20 Cricket

B20 CRICKET FOR GIRLS

B20 is the introductory club offer for girls in Middlesex. Leading on from B20 in schools competition (visit our Schools page for more information), B20 consists of 6 sessions for girls at the club environment.

A 6-a-side format, B20 is played with an incrediball and is very quickfire – each innings lasts just 20 balls and the focus is on participation and having fun! County Age Group cricketers are encourages to take up a leadership role at clubs taking part in B20 - as assistant coaches, officials and ambassadors.

B20 CRICKET FOR WOMEN

B20 Cricket is an intra-club competition and training opportunity. A single-venue session, host clubs run sessions featuring match play opportunities and skill development. A 6-a-side competition, B20 is played with an incrediball or a cricket ball and is very quickfire – each innings lasts just 20 balls and the focus is on participation and having fun!  B20 is a brilliant way to begin the formation of a women’s cricket side and improve the social atmosphere

Performance Cricket

The girls’ performance pathway fits alongside the wider performance pathway, which can be downloaded to the right.

REGIONAL CRICKET

Regional Cricket is overseen by Middlesex Cricket and volunteers from the two Seaxe League regions.  Regional cricket is competed at U10, U12 and U14. Girls are invited to trial for their region at the end of the summer term, and play 3 games in September alongside an inside trail. This is the only selection route for County Age Group cricket at U11, U13 and U15.
