A LETTER TO MIDDLESEX MEMBERS FROM CEO ANDREW CORNISH

A LETTER TO MIDDLESEX MEMBERS FROM CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, ANDREW CORNISH

Dear member,

First and foremost, I sincerely hope you are well, especially in these extremely difficult times, with the country in a period of national mourning at the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

I would like to personally thank all members who joined us on our online members’ forum last Thursday evening, when, whilst discussing members’ concerns around the ECB’s High Performance Review, we had to draw the meeting to a prompt close on hearing the sad news from Buckingham Palace. We felt that ending the meeting immediately was the most appropriate and most respectful course of action to take in the circumstances.

Following this, I wanted to bring you up to speed with the latest developments on the ECB’s Review process, which has seen the ECB inform all First Class Counties that they will be delaying any publication of the findings of their review, and any subsequent proposals resulting from it, until after Her Majesty the Queen’s Funeral on Monday 19th September.

The planned meeting of all FCC Chairs on September 20th has also been deferred, and the ECB will work with all counties to rearrange a suitable date, when Chairs will have the opportunity to discuss the proposals in the review in relation to future domestic structures. Furthermore, the ECB has also confirmed that no final decision on the domestic structure for 2024 and beyond will be taken at this meeting, which will provide all Counties with sufficient time to consult on the proposals.

Essentially, this means that we have more time to discuss, debate, and consult with our members on this process, which can only be a positive thing, and as such, we will be expanding the agenda of the planned Middlesex members’ End of Season Forum, scheduled for Monday 3rd October 2022, to also include any questions the membership has on the High Performance Review process.

This Forum will take place after the Special General Meeting, being held on the same day, which has one item of business – further revisions to the Club Rules.

The SGM and End of Season Forum will take place in the Thomas Lord Suite, from 6pm, starting with the SGM, followed by the Forum, before members are invited to join Board Directors, staff, and fellow members for a complimentary glass of wine or two to bring the season to an end.

Whilst the circumstances that have led to this outcome are extraordinary and are indeed extremely saddening, the fact that we have more time to discuss and consult on these matters is important, and we are looking forward to receiving our members’ collective feedback on all the issues raised and to discussing them at length.

We therefore look forward to seeing you on the 3rd October and to hopefully enjoying a successful end to the season for Middlesex on the field of play.

Yours sincerely

Andrew Cornish – Chief Executive Officer, Middlesex Cricket
