HARROW SCHOOL DEFEAT MERCHANT TAYLORS' SCHOOL IN SCHOOLS' ASSOCIATION FINAL

HARROW SCHOOL DEFEAT MERCHANT TAYLORS' SCHOOL IN SCHOOLS' ASSOCIATION FINAL

Harrow School won the first of this year's Schools Cricket Association of Middlesex Finals on Tuesday 11 June when their Under 15 Boys team defeated Merchant Taylors' School by seven wickets. The keenly fought match, played at Harrow School, came down to the final over when a boundary saw Harrow get over the line in their run chase.

On a chilly June evening, Merchant Taylors' elected to bat after winning the toss but were kept in check by good, aggressive Harrow bowling and fielding. Tight lines and regular wickets meant Merchant Taylors' struggled to get away.

The away school's score would have been even less but for a few boundaries and some quick running between the wickets from their middle and lower order. On a good pitch 120 didn't look like being enough but gave the Under 15s side something to bowl at.

Harrow’s victory looked as though it would be more comprehensive after they made a fast start to proceedings.

Merchant Taylors' could and would have pushed Harrow harder but for a couple of dropped catches. Had these been held, Harrow would have had to work far harder for their winning score. But in the end Harrow were impressive winners and will now go on to represent Middlesex in the England Schools Cricket Association competition.

In this tournament they will play the winners of the same competition being played in Surrey.

Good luck to Harrow – we hope you go the whole way.
