MIKE GATTING OBE JOINS MIDDLESEX CCC EXECUTIVE BOARD
Middlesex County Cricket Club is today delighted to announce that Mike Gatting OBE, one of the club’s most recognised, loyal and successful servants, has accepted the club’s offer to join their Executive Board.
Gatting, who successfully led the club as captain for a decade and a half, from 1983 to 1997, through the most successful period in the club’s history, is seen as the perfect man to fill the void left by Andrew Strauss. Strauss resigned his position on the club’s Executive Board, following his appointment to the new role of Director of England Cricket with the England and Wales Cricket Board recently.
Middlesex County Cricket Club’s Chairman, Ian Lovett, said this of Gatting’s appointment.....
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Mike onto the Middlesex CCC Executive Board and are looking forward to him making asignificant contribution towards the wellbeing of this great club moving forward.”
“To have secured the services of a man of Mike’s calibre and pedigree within the game is outstanding news, and we have no doubt that the club’s members will share in our delight in welcoming one the club’s true legends onto the Board.”
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew Strauss for his service and dedication to his responsibilities as a member of our Board and on behalf of everyone at the club, we wish him every success in his new role at the ECB. Our loss in this instance is most definitely English cricket’s gain, and it’s great to know that the English game is in such safe hands moving forward.”
On accepting the position with Middlesex, Mike Gatting commented.....
“It goes without saying that Middlesex County Cricket Club is extremely close to my heart, and it is a huge honour to have been invited onto the club’s Board.”
“I have enjoyed many, many successful years as a player with Middlesex, and am hugely proud of everything we achieved as a side back then. I am now relishing the opportunity to once again make an impact on the club’s success by playing an active role in the club’s administration.”
“My thanks go to Ian and the rest of the Executive Board for this opportunity. I look forward to working with them all and to re-acquainting myself with many old friends who remain at the club from my time at Middlesex as a player.”
