KENT WON BY 6 WICKETS: MIDDLESEX 92; KENT 94-4
We arrived at the county ground on a beautiful summer morning. The girls looked excited to be playing at such a great venue.
During our warm up Fran Wilson slipped and injured her knee, which turned out to be a hammer blow to the team, as the injury meant she could take no further part in the game.
We won the toss and elected to bat first. Kent’s opening bowlers swung the new ball throughout their opening spell reducing us to 23-3 off the first 10 overs, and we never really got going. Only three of our batters managed double figures (Westbury, Dattani and Pope) and we were eventually bowled out for 92 off 35.5 overs.
Kent started their chase briskly, getting to 50 within nine overs. Despite them getting off to a flyer we still took three wickets.
This meant that we were able to honour Charlotte Edward, who retired from international cricket this week, by giving her a guard of honour when she came into bat. A fitting gesture for a player that has showed incredible ability to maintain her career for the length she has. It was great to see our girls show such respect for Charlotte as well as showing as a county that we respect her achievements.
Kent only lost one further wicket and won the match within 20 overs.
This was a bad day for us but in my eyes it's by no means a disaster. I truly believe in our group and remain positive about their ability to bounce back and begin to push other teams hard.
