Middlesex Cricket in partnership with MCC invited 500 people into Lord's today to enjoy Memories Day at the Home of Cricket, for day one of Middlesex’s Specsavers County Championship clash with Somerset.
The annual Memories Day initiative, which launched successfully last year, aims to provide Lord’s Cricket Ground as a safe and comfortable environment, for people aged over 55, to come and meet new and like-minded people, talk about old memories, whilst also making some new ones, all over a cup of tea or two in the Nursery Pavilion, whilst enjoying the day’s play out in the middle.
Both Middlesex and MCC worked closely with agencies such as Age UK, Open Age, Jasper Centre, NVK, Age Concern and many more besides from within and around Middlesex, to ensure that the day was well attended and beneficial to all concerned. A team of volunteers were also on hand to ensure that the attendees were well looked after throughout the day.
During one of the many conversations we were lucky enough to witness, we came across a Sylvia Stapleton, now Talbot, who herself played with the three seaxes of Middlesex on her jumper as a member of Middlesex Women’s County Team as a right handed batsman and slow right arm bowler between the years of 1954 and 1968.
Many of those who came along took part in games of B20 table cricket in the Nursery Pavilion; a format of the game that allows anyone, irrespective of ability and age, to take part and enjoy everything that cricket has to offer.
