MIDDLESEX WON BY 35 RUNS: MIDDLESEX 123-9; SURREY 88 ALL OUT
It was our second visit to the Kia Oval for the now annual Pemberton Greenish London Cup, and we discussed before the game what an amazing occasion and venue it is to play at and showcase your skills.
The toss went to plan as we won it and chose to bat first. Within 2 overs that looked like a bad plan as we were 19-2 with both openers back in the pavilion (Dunkley and Miles).
Bouchier and Morgan got us to 50 within 6 overs. We then lost Morgan for a quick fire 31 off 17 balls. Bouchier looked very comfortable for her first game for us this season (15). Our captain Westbury then came in and started to score very freely (22) - our scoring rate was very fast, but we were losing wickets just as fast and I was starting to think that we may get bowled out for under 100.
However, thanks to some mature batting from our younger batters at the end we got to 123 off our 20 overs with one wicket to spare.
We knew if we bowled to our potential we could cause some real problems by taking wickets and creating pressure. Yet again the girls proved their worth in real style.
The ground fielding was brilliant as alway, but I have to confess that when we dropped Sciver twice I thought she would just say to herself “go for it”.
The skills of all our bowlers, for the second time against Surrey, proved too much for their batters and after Surrey’s first 10 overs our score was much higher than theirs.
All six bowlers executed their plans very well - Huddleston, Hartley and Dunkley all took two wickets each and the others chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Whitty was also exceptional behind the stumps, taking four stumpings.
Surrey never really got to grips with us and they were bowled out for 88.
As I said in my last report, I truly believe in our team, and I know our batting will come good soon. When it does we are going to be a really tough team to beat.
