Middlesex County Cricket Club regret to announce that Andrew Balbirnie has left the club having been released from his contract.
Balbirnie, 25, a graduate of the Middlesex Academy, was in the final year of his contract, having previously made two first-class, three List-A and seven T20 appearances for the club since making his senior debut in August 2012.
He returned from a winter with Ireland suffering from an ongoing hip condition that required surgery at the start of this season. Lengthy recuperation from the operation meant that Balbirnie would be unavailable for selection for the entirety of the 2016 season, which led to both parties reaching an amicable agreement over Balbirnie’s departure from the club.
Angus Fraser, Middlesex County Cricket Club’s Managing Director, commented…
“It’s always extremely sad to release a young cricketer, especially when they are as likeable and as committed to the game as Andrew.
"He is expected to make a full recovery from his operation, is a very good cricketer, and everyone at the club wishes him well for the future.”
Andrew Balbirnie said…
“I would like to thank everyone involved in Middlesex County Cricket Club over the last five seasons who have helped me develop not just on the field but off it too.
"It’s been a huge honour to represent this great club and one that has been thoroughly enjoyable.
"I wish the squad and the staff the very best for the remainder of the season.”
