Interview with Dawid Malan

Dawid Malan chatted to us at Lord's about how he'd taken the news of a call-up to the England T20I squad for the one-off match against Sri Lanka, and on winning the Middlesex CCC Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month award for May 2016.

Malan, was named as the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for May 2016, following a terrific month in Division One of the Specsavers County Championship and a great start to Middlesex’s NatWest T20 Blast campaign.

He hit a total of 355 first-class runs in the Championship in May at an average of 71, including two magnificent centuries against Hampshire, at the Ageas Bowl at the start of the month and again at Lord’s in the final Championship match of the month, plus he hit a match winning knock at Uxbridge to get Middlesex’s T20 Blast campaign off to a winning start.

In Middlesex’s opening red ball fixture of May in Southampton, Malan’s knock of 121, from 168 balls, including 20 boundaries, was crucial in a Middlesex total of 361 as the visitors batted to reach first innings parity against Hampshire in another rain affected affair. Malan cashed in again in the Championship against Hampshire at the end of the month, as his knock of 147, off 226 balls, with seventeen boundaries and two maximums, set up Middlesex’s first victory of the County Championship campaign, on the back of six consecutive draws.

In Middlesex’s solitary NatWest T20 Blast fixture of May, in Malan’s debut as the club’s T20 Blast captain, he led from the front with a superb knock of 93 off just 48 balls, including ten fours and five maximums to see his side to victory, again against Hampshire.

On being named as the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for May 2016, Dawid Malan commented....

“I’ve been really pleased with my four-day form so far this season, and for the last couple of years, and this season it’s been great to contribute towards Middlesex having an unbeaten start to the campaign. It’s been really frustrating though that the rain has continued to thwart our hopes for more wins, especially when we’ve been in winning positions, but after beating Hampshire in our last game the mood in the dressing room is very positive.”

.Malan was presented with a magnum of champagne and a cheque for £1000 by Adam Temple, Senior Investment Director, London Team Head, of Brooks Macdonald, during the interval of Middlesex’s NatWest T20 Blast match against Somerset at Lord’s last night. .
