After much consideration and in light of the news that Adam Voges will not be returning to play for the club for the remainder of the 2016 season, Middlesex County Cricket Club has chosen not to employ the services of an overseas player for its final four Specsavers County Championship matches.
Voges was due to return in time to play in Wednesday's match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston but Cricket Australia denied him the permission. The decision and tournament regulations give Middlesex CCC the option of finding and engaging a replacement, but it is an option they have chosen not to take.
Commenting on the Middlesex CCC's decision the Club's Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser, said:
"Losing Adam was disappointing but it is a blow I believe we can cope with. We have a number of extremely talented players at Middlesex, many of whom are in good form and having very good seasons.
"We will retain the option of playing an overseas player should injury remove a pivotal figure but it has been the performances of these players that has got the club into the position it currently finds itself in.
"These are the games that every cricketer wants to play in and I believe they deserve the opportunity to take us to where we want to be. September promises to be an exciting month for Middlesex CCC and I am very confident they will continue to represent the Club with pride and distinction."
