Middlesex County Cricket Club and their principal sponsor Brooks Macdonald have named all-rounder and Middlesex’s four-day captain, James Franklin, as the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for August 2016.
Franklin picked up the captaincy reins of Middlesex’s four-day side at the end of June, when Adam Voges left the club to represent Australia. He has led the side with distinction since, as Middlesex have remained at the top of the Division One table and have continued their unbeaten run in the Championship, which now stands at fifteen matches.
Franklin himself hit 177 runs in all formats throughout August, in four matches, at an average of 59, 143 of which came in the Specsavers County Championship matches against Surrey and Durham at an average of 71.50.
In those two Championship matches he also contributed with the ball with his left arm seam, picking up six crucial wickets, including figures of 3 for 26 against Durham, as Middlesex secured an important innings victory at Lord’s.
James Franklin was presented with a magnum of champagne and a cheque for £1000 in front of the Lord’s Pavilion by Steven Walsh, Client Relationship Director of Brooks Macdonald, during the lunch interval of Middlesex’s Specsavers County Championship match against Yorkshire at Lord’s today.
