Having won the toss, Middlesex captain Nick Compton elected to bat first, and the day got off to a great start for the visitors, as he and fellow opener Paul Stirling found their touch early to build a solid foundation for the Middlesex innings. Both looked in good order and their opening partnership put on 107 for the first wicket.
A flurry of wickets applied the brakes however as Stirling (64), Compton (51), Perera (7) and Scott (25) all fell in the space of 11 overs in the middle of the innings, as Middlesex slipped to 164 for 4, before Higgins and Fuller set about recapturing the initiative.
Higgins went on to hit a magnificent, top scoring 83 off just 59 balls, and with Fuller's 27 and Podmore's 36 off just 25 balls late in the innings, Middlesex posted a competitive total of 332.
Surrey Innings 267 all out - 45.2 overs
Tom Helm and Tom Barber took the new ball for Middlesex, and the latter struck with only the eighth ball of the innings, picking up the wicket of Patel for just one. Harinath and Pope then steadied the ship, before Podmore, coming on as first change bowler, captured the wicket of Harinath for 13, as Surrey slipped to 51 for 2.
With Podmore striking again to dismiss Woods for 12, the required run rate beigan to climb, although an 80 run fourth wicket partnership between Pope and van den Bergh kept Surrey in the chase.
Pope's dismissal, in the 29th over, was the first of four Surrey wickets to fall for just 15 runs in 5 overs, and the game again swung in Middlesex's favour.
A late rally from Stuart Meaker, batting at seven, gave the hosts an outside chance, although two late wickets for Ravi Patel and one for James Fuller sealed their fate and wrapped up an impressive victory for Middlesex against London rivals Surrey, as the hosts were bowled out for just 267 in the 46th over.
Podmore finished with figures of 3 for 52, Helm 3 for 54, Patel 2 for 39, Barber 1 for 47 and Fuller 1 for 49.
