Middlesex Cricket have named a fourteen-man squad for the trip to Southampton, where they’ll take on Hampshire in their third Royal London One-Day Cup clash of the season.
Paul Stirling, having hit 71 and 26 in Middlesex’s opening two one-day clashes, misses out on the trip to the South Coast, as he joins Tim Murtagh in teaming up with the Ireland squad ahead of the first ODI against England at Bristol on Friday. Also missing out is Steven Finn, who will join up with Eoin Morgan and the rest of the England squad for the international clash at the Brightside Ground.
Added to the squad are Nick Compton, who has recalled to the squad having returned to fitness after a shoulder injury, James Harris, having returned from a short loan spell at Kent, and Ollie Rayner, now also back to fitness after a finger injury that kept him out of the opening two fifty over clashes.
With only three teams qualifying for the knockout stages of the one-day competition this season, Middlesex will be desperate to get the first win of their campaign under their belts at the Ageas Bowl, after falling to defeat in their last clash against Gloucestershire on Sunday and having to settle for just a point against Sussex last Thursday, as the game fell victim to the weather and was abandoned early.
Hampshire head into this encounter off the back of a defeat to Essex, although they name an unchanged thirteen-man squad for the visit of Middlesex, which includes three former Middlesex men, in Gareth Berg, Kyle Abbott and George Bailey.
The hosts will be without four key men for the clash at the Ageas Bowl, as Rilee Rossouw, Fidel Edwards, Chris Wood and Brad Wheal are all sidelined through injury.
The corresponding fixture in this competition last season saw Hampshire claim victory, reaching their rain reduced DL revised target for the loss of five wickets at Radlett, despite Middlesex smashing their attack for 295 runs in their 50 overs. The huge target was set in vain however, as heavy rainfall saw a revised D/L target fall heavily in Hampshire's favour.
