Middlesex name a fourteen-man squad for the visit of Glamorgan to Radlett Cricket Club tomorrow, for the sixth match of their Royal London One-Day Cup South Group campaign
After the disappointment of defeat to Kent on Sunday at Canterbury, where despite bowling the hosts out for 200, Middlesex were themselves bowled out for just 154, to lose by 46 runs, Middlesex head into the clash needing to urgently pick themselves up and rediscover the kind of form they showed against both Sussex and Hampshire earlier in the competition.
The equation for Middlesex couldn’t be any more straightforward now! With just three games remaining, the Seaxes need to secure wins in every game to realistically give themselves any hope of finishing in the top three places to progress into the knockout stages of the tournament.
In a campaign that has at times seen Middlesex performing at their very best, yet frustratingly at times performing way below their potential, Head Coach Richard Scott’s frustration was evident after the side’s latest defeat down at the St Lawrence Ground, so he’ll be looking for significant improvements with the bat against Glamorgan tomorrow.
Steven Finn returns to the Middlesex squad, having missed the last two Royal London One-Day Cup matches on England duty, although both Tim Murtagh and Paul Stirling are still unavailable due to International commitments with Ireland. Finn replaces James Harris in the squad.
Glamorgan head into the clash on the back of a nail-biting victory against Essex on Sunday in Cardiff, where, having posted 281 for 7 in their fifty overs, Essex fell just one run short in their chase, finishing on 280 for 9 to see Glamorgan secure the points. Glamorgan’s win kept their own slim chances of qualification alive, and with them now sitting on four points from five games played, compared to Middlesex’s three points from five played, neither side can afford to lose tomorrow if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
With so much at stake it’s all set to be a brilliant winner takes all encounter at Cobden Hill.
