Congratulations to Middlesex Women, who last night defeated Surrey Women by three runs, in a nail-biting twenty over clash at Radlett Cricket Club to retain the T20 London Cup.
The annual London Cup fixture, played for the last two years at the Kia Oval, was this year played on home soil as the sides went head to head at Radlett last night. Middlesex have won the previous two encounters and last night they made it three from three with their gripping victory.
After Middlesex Women's Captain Natasha Miles had lost the toss, Middlesex were put into bat, and proceeded to put on 150 runs in their twenty overs, with Miles herself top-scoring with a beautiful half century. Also showing her class was former England International Beth Morgan, who hit a fluent 40 in quick time.
The Surrey reply looked to be well on course, however key wickets at key times restricted the visitors' run chase, leaving them needing eleven off the final over the lift the trophy.
New Zealand International Holly Huddleston had other ideas however and restricted the Surrey batsmen to just seven runs, leaving them short of their target, finishing their innings on 147.
Miles was herself presented with the Man of the Match award for her match-winning half century, and received a bottle of champagne from Middlesex Cricket's MD of Cricket, Angus Fraser, and then had the honour of lifting the London Cup with her team amid jubilant scenes and the obligatory spraying of the winners' champagne.
