During the lunch interval of today’s Specsavers County Championship match between Middlesex and Somerset at Lord’s, Middlesex President, John Emburey, and Andrew Denham-Davis, Business Development Director of Brooks Macdonald, Middlesex Cricket’s Principal Sponsor, presented the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month award for May 2017 to Toby Roland-Jones.
The monthly award, judged by the club’s cricket management group earns the winning player a cheque for £1,000 and a magnum of Brooks Macdonald champagne, which were presented to seamer Roland-Jones in front of the Lord’s Pavilion earlier today.
Roland-Jones earned the Player of the Month accolade for picking up 13 List-A wickets in the month of May in Middlesex’s final five Royal London One-Day Cup matches, plus taking five wickets in Middlesex’s last Specsavers County Championship encounter against Surrey at Lord’s.
Roland-Jones’ finest return this month came in the Sky televised fifty-over clash at the Ageas Bowl against Hampshire, where he steamrollered his way through the Hampshire top order, with a devastating spell of bowling, picking up the hosts’ top three and number five batsman, on his way to figures of 4 for 10 in seven incredible overs. His spell earned him the Man of the Match award and saw Middlesex to a comprehensive 89 runs D/L victory.
This award tops an outstanding month for Roland-Jones, after he made his full England debut earlier this week in the third ODI against South Africa at Lord’s.
Congratulations to Toby Roland-Jones on being named as the recipient of the May 2017 Middlesex Cricket Brooks Macdonald Player of the month.
