The Middlesex U11 Boys Team had a highly successful week at the English Schools Cricket Association County Festival at King’s College, Taunton, last week. The team had excellent wins against Nottinghamshire (by 7 wickets), Berkshire (by 4 wickets), Gloucestershire (by 47 runs) and Cornwall (by 5 wickets) and drew with Wales, before being crowned the overall winner of the Festival. The standard of county teams at the Festival was high, with 12 teams taking part, and so it was a terrific performance by the boys to end the season in such style. It was a real team effort but there were some good individual performances with bat and ball, the most notable of which was Rory Walter’s 54 against Wales and Aryaman Varma’s 5 for 22 (off 9 overs) against Berkshire. The latter achievement earned Aryaman a place in the West of England Festivals’ Hall of Fame. The fielding was brilliant at times and improved throughout the week, with several direct hits to get ‘run outs’. The team not only performed well on the field but were also outstanding ambassadors for Middlesex Cricket. Well done to all 15 members of the U11 County Squad.
