Leading from the front, England's white ball captain Eoin Morgan hit a composed unbeaten knock of 81, to see England to victory against a Cricket Australia XI at the Drummoyne Oval in Sydney this morning.
The day/night clash was England's only white-ball warm-up clash ahead of the five match One Day international series starting this Sunday against Australia at the MCG.
Batting first, the Cricket Australia XI posted a total of 258 for 9 in their fifty overs, with Adil Rashid (3 for 45), Moeen Ali (2 for 28) and Liam Plunkett (2 for 52) the leading performers with the ball.
In reply England cruised to victory with almost ten overs to spare, just five wickets down, with Morgan's top-scoring knock the highlight of the tourists' innings.
Coming to the crease with the score on 88 for 2 in the sixteenth over, Morgan batted patiently to see England to victory, resolute in defence and aggressive to anything loose, as he hit two maximums and seven boundaries in his 76 ball innings.
The victory will give England a much needed lift ahead of the ODI series, as they look to enact some revenge with the white ball, following the 4-0 Ashes series defeat to the old foe.
The first ODI begins at 3.20am (GMT) on Sunday 14th January 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
