Middlesex’s Specsavers County Championship campaign kicks off tomorrow at Lord’s, with the visit of Northamptonshire, who come to the Home of Cricket for the first time since 2014. Richard Scott has named a thirteen-man squad for the four-day clash.
Sam Robson, who made his captaincy debut last week against Durham MCCU, will once again lead the side out in the absence of Dawid Malan, who again sits this one out on an enforced break, following a busy winter international schedule with England.
Robson himself was in magnificent form with the bat last week against the Uni students at Merchant Taylors’ School, when he and Stephen Eskinazi both got their seasons off to flying starts - hitting unbeaten hundreds in the first-class encounter on the one day’s play that was possible at a wet and rainy Northwood.
Eoin Morgan and Nick Gubbins both remain side-lined through injury and miss out again, although Paul Stirling returns from international duty with Ireland and is named within the squad.
George Scott drops out of the thirteen-man squad named for last week’s clash, with Paul Stirling stepping in, with the Irishman hoping for an immediate return to Middlesex action.
Northants come to Lord’s with a couple of familiar faces in their ranks, with both Adam Rossington and Steven Crook included within the visitors’ squad to face the Seaxes tomorrow.
