Match Result - Middlesex win by 3 wickets
Middlesex won their opening Second Eleven Trophy match of the season today, beating Kent 2nd XI by 3 wickets.
After winning the toss and electing to put the hosts into bat first, Middlesex made quick work of Kent’s top order, leaving the score at 44-3 just after the 10 over mark. Ali and Haggett helped to stabilise the Kent innings, building a 50 partnership before Max John struck to dismiss Ali for 20.
Haggett remained at the crease long enough to reach his 50, before eventually being bowled by Finn for 58, leaving the score at 160-6 in the 39th over.
James Franklin struck twice and Sowter dismissed Blake on 41 to leave the Kent tail exposed at 187-9, however a final wicket partnership of 35 meant Kent finished their innings of 222 all out, with just 3 balls remaining.
The Middlesex innings began in much the same vain, with early dismissals of Franklin and Eoin Morgan, who was in action for the first time having recovered from a broken thumb, leaving the visitors on 31-2. George Scott batted decisively and positively, for a fine 72, before finally being dismissed by Qayyum with the score on 118-6.
Nathan Sowter and Ravi Patel built a steady partnership, leaving just over a run a ball required from the final 10 overs.
At this point the pair began to press on, building a decisive partnership of 92 to see Middlesex over the line with 11 balls remaining.
