Middlesex bounced back from an opening day Royal London One-Day Cup defeat at the hands of Essex last Thursday, by beating Kent on Sunday at Radlett by 70 runs, getting their 2018 fifty-over campaign up and running.
Paul Stirling and Tom Helm were the standout performers for Middlesex on the day, the former hitting a brilliant 125 runs off 115 balls, the latter bowling with pace and penetration to pick up figures of 4 for 49.
Middlesex head to Cardiff next for a Sky televised day/night encounter starting at 2pm, where they’ll face a Glamorgan side who sit at the bottom of the table, having been comprehensively beaten in their opening two Royal London One-Day Cup clashes this term.
First up Glamorgan went down by eight wickets at home to Gloucestershire, before then losing to Somerset by 83 runs in Taunton. Whilst yet to record a win in the competition, Glamorgan’s powerful batting line-up are capable of going big on their day, with Colin Ingram posing the principal threat. He top scored for Glamorgan in Middlesex’s tight tussle with the Welshmen at Radlett last season with a quickfire half century, and is already Glamorgan’s leading run scorer this time round with knocks of 44 and 85. Keeping Ingram quiet on Wednesday will be key to Middlesex’s game plan.
The Middlesex squad left Uxbridge on a coach this morning heading to the West Country, and will now face three back to back away games, with trips to Hove and Taunton following the visit to Cardiff. Steven Finn’s men will be looking to build on a good all-round performance against Kent on Sunday and will be hoping to return home with at least two wins from their three games on the road this week.
