Ollie Rayner joins Hampshire on loan for an initial one-month period
Middlesex Cricket can today announce that off-spinner Ollie Rayner will be heading to the Ageas Bowl to join Hampshire on a one-month loan.
He will join Hampshire to provide a spin option in the absence of both Mason Crane, who is injured, and Liam Dawson, who has been called up to represent the England Lions.
Rayner will be eligible to represent Hampshire in this week’s round of County Championship games, when they face Yorkshire in Southampton, starting on Wednesday.
Middlesex’s Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser, commented…
“As with a lot of loan agreements this is a win-win situation for both Middlesex and Ollie.
“Having chosen to pick Ravi Patel ahead of Ollie this week, Ollie was extremely keen to play some first-class cricket, and Hampshire’s predicament has allowed this to happen.
“Should Middlesex’s situation change we have the right to recall Ollie to the club.”
Speaking of the loan move, Ollie Rayner himself said…
“I’m obviously disappointed to not be featuring in the forthcoming round of Championship matches for Middlesex, however when one door closes, another one opens, and I’ve now got a great opportunity to go and play some first eleven cricket with Hampshire.
“I’d like to thank Angus and the club for making this happen and for giving me the chance to play first-class cricket in the coming weeks.
“My thanks also go to Hampshire for giving me this opportunity and I’m looking forward to repaying their faith in me, and for bringing me in to provide cover in their spin department.
“Finally, I would like to wish Middlesex every success against Leicestershire and Kent and look forward to seeing you all again soon.”
