MATCH ONE RESULT – SOMERSET WIN BY 3 WICKETS

SCORECARD

Middlesex struggled to get off to a good start with the bat, having won the toss in the first match of the day.

2 early wickets restricted the visitors to 30-2 by the end of the 5^th over, having lost Cracknell and White.

Charlie Scott and Martin Andersson helped to recover their innings, putting on 78 runs in the next 10 overs without loss.

However, a spectacular opening over from Myburgh gave Somerset the advantage once more, taking a hattrick and seeing to the end of Andersson, George Scott and John in consecutive deliveries.

Myburgh’s next over had similar success, and 2 more wickets fell to give Myburgh a 5 wicket haul in just 2 overs.

Middlesex finished on 139-7, with Myburgh finishing with figures of 5-3, and Charlie Scott unbeaten on 57.

Middlesex got off to the perfect start with the ball, With Wells departing at the end of the first over with the score on 1-1.

Wickets continued to fall, and by the end of the 10^th over Middlesex would have been hopeful for a positive result with the score at 67-4.

Somerset continued to struggle, and lost another 3 wickets in the following 5 overs to progress on to 94-7, still needing 45 to win.

However, Somerset’s tail wagged considerably, and they were able to secure the victory with 4 balls to spare, largely thanks to an unbeaten 71 from Rouse.

MATCH TWO RESULT – MIDDLESEX WIN BY 41 RUNS

Middlesex decided to bat first once again in the second match of the day, and got off to a much more promising start.

An aggressive opening partnership of 56 from Andersson and Cracknell took only 5 overs to build, but one wicket brought two in the 6^th over.

Middlesex were able to push on from here however, and a convincing partnership of 78 from White and George Scott placed the visitors in a strong position on 135-3 in the 15^th over.

Only one more wicket fell, and Middlesex were able to progress on to 186-4 by the end of their 20 overs.

Middlesex also got off to a dream start with the ball, reducing the hosts to 16-3 in the 4^th over.

Despite two strong partnerships from Somerset, they had only moved onto 102-5 by the 15^th over, making victory look unlikely at this point for the hosts.

Middlesex turned on the pressure even further, and two wickets in two balls from Walallawita left Somerset on 131-8.

The tail was wrapped up in the final over by Tom Barber in two consecutive deliveries once again, meaning Somerset fell short by 41 runs.
