CLOSE OF PLAY - DAY TWO
Play abandoned on Day Two due to rain.
CLOSE OF PLAY - DAY ONE
Middlesex 2nd XI - 362/9 dec
Kent/Sussex 2nd XI - 71/0
Middlesex 2nd XI began their preparations for the 2019 season today at Blackstone Academy, where they went in to bat first in a three-day friendly against a Sussex/Kent 2nd XI mixed team.
After Stewart saw to the end of Davies for 10, Middlesex made swift progress thanks to a pacey 41 from 34 balls from George Scott.
His dismissal was shortly followed with the loss of Stirling, but this did not seem to deter Middlesex.
Josh de Caires looked set at one end throughout the day, and despite losing wickets at fairly regular intervals, he stood firm against a strong opposition attack.
De Caires eventually went on to reach his century from 192 balls, including 16 fours at the time.
Thilan Walallawita joined de Caires at the crease shortly before Tea was taken, with the score going into the final session at 253/7.
This partnership went on to prosper, seeing Middlesex comfortably past 300. Walallawita celebrated his 50 from just 58 deliveries, and between the two of them the Middlesex total began to look a strong one.
Once Walallawita had been dismissed for 54, and de Caires went past his 150, Middlesex decided to declare on 362/9, leaving a handful of overs left in the day to be bowled.
The mixed side started on the front foot, quickly passing 50 without loss. Evans and Burgess saw out the remaining overs in the day, leaving them on 71/0 at the close of play.
