Today, we are delighted to announce the squad of seventeen players who will represent Middlesex Women throughout the 2020 season. The squad will be led by the experienced all-rounder Naomi Dattani, who takes the captaincy reins for all formats. Dattani will be ably supported by Cordelia Griffith, who sits as Vice-Captain in all formats.
There are fifteen full players in the Women’s squad this year, twelve who have previous playing experience in the Middlesex Women’s first team, and three who are new additions to the squad - Kate Coppack, Gemma Marriott and Lucy Porter. The squad of seventeen is completed with the addition of two new rookies, Anisha Dissanayake and Amelie Munday – both who take their first steps on the player pathway and come into the squad to gain experience and first team exposure.
The squad will compete in the ECB's domestic County T20 competition and against local rival Surrey, Kent and Essex Women in the fifty-over format.
When naming the squads for this year's campaign, Head of Women's Cricket for Middlesex, Danni Warren, commented:
“This is always an exciting time of the year, after all the hard work of the winter, announcing our summer squads signals the start of our preparation for the season.
“Looking back over the winter I am delighted to see the results of the dedication this group have shown, working both with Middlesex and in the MCC/Middlesex Women’s Academy or their ECB Regional Development Centre.
“Our experienced players have really led the way, taking all opportunities to develop their game and increase levels of fitness.
“It is brilliant to be able to welcome some new members to the group - just reward for both promising 2019 seasons and dedication over the winter.
“Gemma, Kate and Lucy have really impressed both Sanjay (Sanjay Patel, Middlesex Women’s Head Coach) and I over the last few months, having worked with Kate and Gemma on the Academy and seeing Lucy regularly in Middlesex and at the Sunrisers RDC.
“All three bring a freshness, excitement, and great skills to the squad. Competition for places is going to make our jobs very tough come the summer.”
Middlesex Women’s Captain, Naomi Dattani, added:
“I am looking forward to this summer with Middlesex, especially in what's set to be an exciting year for Women's cricket.
“I’m grateful to have also been given the captaincy for the T20 campaign and would like to thank Natasha for all she's done for this side over the past three seasons. Her experience will continue to be invaluable to the team and I look forward to leading the girls in a competitive, honest and fun environment.
“The squad have been training hard through the winter, individually working on their games and building on what we learnt last year. It's also exciting to have a few young new players coming in. They have been pushing for spots the last couple seasons and can't wait to see what they can do.
“We can't wait to get going in 2020.”
