SOPHIA DUNKLEY TO LEAVE MIDDLESEX TO JOIN SURREY
Middlesex Cricket can today announce that all-rounder Sophia Dunkley is set to leave Middlesex Women to join Surrey.
Lambeth born Dunkley, 21, first entered the Middlesex county system in the Under 11’s age group and played through the ages to Under 19’s. Her talent and early potential didn’t go unnoticed, when at Under 12 level she was selected in the Counties’ Junior Emerging Player Programme.
She made her competitive debut for Middlesex Women’s senior side at the age of just 14 against Kent in 2013 and has since gone on to make over 80 appearances for the club in both T20 and List-A formats.
Dunkley was named as the winner of the Middlesex Women’s Player of the Year award in both the 2017 and 2019 seasons and finishes her Middlesex playing career having scored over 1,500 runs and having taken just short of one hundred wickets for the club in List-A and T20 cricket.
Dunkley’s performances for her county saw her pulled into the England Women’s international set-up at an early age, firstly into the England Women’s Development Programme, then the England Women’s Academy, the England Women’s Senior Pathway squad, before receiving her call-up to the full international squad in 2018 for the ICC Women’s World T20 in the West Indies. She made the first of her ten international appearances for England against Bangladesh in November 2018.
Speaking of Dunkley’s departure to Surrey, Middlesex’s Head of Women’s Cricket, Danni Warren, commented:
“Sophia has been an integral part of the Middlesex Women’s set up for the past decade.
“From a very early age we were aware of what a special talent she was, and it came as no surprise to us when her performances for Middlesex earned her the chance to perform on the international stage.
“Sophia is not only an exceptionally talented cricketer, but she is a great person to have around the club, and we will all miss her in the Middlesex dressing room.
“She will always be welcome back here at Lord’s and will always be part of the Middlesex family. Our thanks go to her for all she has done over the years for Middlesex Cricket.
“We wish Sophia every success in the future, both for her county and for her country.”
