Middlesex Women will start a hastily arranged London Championship campaign with a home fixture against North London rivals Essex this Saturday. Following the return of women’s county cricket, marked by the London Cup fixture at The Oval, all four London counties have worked together to arrange a short playing programme and make the most of what remains of the 2020 season. Middlesex, Essex, Surrey and Kent will each play each other once, either home or away, in 50 over format matches.
Speaking ahead of the start of the campaign, Head Coach Sanjay Patel shared how much it will mean to the players to be able to represent Middlesex in competitive fixtures this summer:
“As a coach, one of the challenges of the last few months has been helping the players come to terms with the fact their winter work was not able to be translated into a summer season. After seeing the girls work incredibly hard over the winter to not be able to take that in to matches an gauge their progress was hard for them to come to terms with. Even in a shortened season, to be able to test ourselves against the quality opposition that this competition gives is a real boost for the players.”
Middlesex’s full fixture list for the London Championship is:
Saturday 1st August v Essex – played at Mill Hill School, 11am start
Thursday 13th August v Surrey – played at Guildford CC, 11am start
