Middlesex Cricket can today confirm the Second Eleven fixtures for the 2021 season.
Unfortunately due to Government restrictions Second Eleven matches will be played under stage three Covid-19 guidelines, meaning that there will be no admission to spectators and matches must be played behind closed doors until all Government restrictions are lifted surrounding public events.
This year will see all Second Eleven County Championship matches contested over four days, rather than three as has previously been the case, and both the Championship and Second Eleven T20 competitions will be played in full in 2021. The fifty-over Second Eleven Trophy however will not feature in the schedule this year, to ease the pressure on county squads, as players depart to feature in the inaugural year of the new Hundred competition
Middlesex Seconds get their season underway against Kent at Merchant Taylors’ School on Monday 12th April in the first of four back-to-back Championship matches to start the campaign off, before attention then turns to the T20 competition, which starts with an away clash at Hove against Sussex on Thursday 3rd June - the first of ten T20 encounters over the next fortnight.
The completion of the T20 competition sees a return to the Championship on Monday 28th June with an away trip to Billericay to face Essex, with Middlesex then playing four further four-day red-ball Championship matches through until the middle of September, when the season draws to a close against Essex at Merchant Taylors’ School.
Middlesex Seconds plan to play one friendly fixture in 2021, against the Cricket Club Conference at Teddington CC on Wednesday 4th August, however this fixture can only take place if all Government restrictions around elite sport are lifted.
Middlesex Cricket will be hoping to live stream all Second Eleven home matches this season and given the nature of the ever-changing Government restrictions, these fixtures may be subject to change.
