The latest Focus on article meets Gunnersbury Women’s Cricket Club, who have moved back to the north of London, looking to help develop and grow women’s cricket in Barnet.
What is the importance of the move?
Whilst Gunnersbury will continue to operate under its own name and Governance, the women’s section is excited to be working in partnership with Barnet-based Old Elizabethans Cricket Club to help develop and grow women’s cricket in the North London-Hertfordshire corridor. For Old Elizabethans, partnering with Gunnersbury was an opportunity for their girls section to progress their game, along with being around players with a wealth of knowledge and experience at the elite level. Everyone at both clubs is very excited and committed to making this a successful partnership for years to come.
What else happens at Gunnersbury?
The club is one of the leading teams in Middlesex, with sides playing in the Women’s Cricket Southern League Premier League and the Middlesex Esme Irwin League. They have produced many international players and various national titles, and have a squad that includes former England international and World Cup Winner Beth Morgan alongside current regional and county players, and those who are new to the game. With a 97 year history, this move is a very important step to continue the club’s legacy. Gunnersbury have won the National Club Knockout competition five times, the WCSL Premier league four times between 2011 and 2018, and the inaugural National T20 knockout Cup in 2018.
What next?
