The ECB’s Disability Premier League (DPL) continued on Sunday with four more matches at Wokingham Cricket Club in Berkshire.
A number of Middlesex players impressed on the opening week and week two was no different:
HAWKS V TRIDENTS
Tridents ran out victorious in the opening match of the day, winning by 14 runs.
Having won the toss and electing to bat first, Tridents made 167/6 in their 20 overs – with Liam O’Brien top-scoring with 47.
Middlesex’s Sammy Kumar took 1/26 as he had Jack Perry stumped by Kevin Baker. Josh Price returned the best Hawks figures, collecting 2/29.
Chris Edwards (32) top-scored, with Alfie Pyle (25) and James Schofield (24) both making contributions. The efforts however were all in vain as Hawks fell short.
PIRATES V BLACK CATS
Like Tridents in the previous game, Pirates won the toss and elected to bat first.
They were dismissed for 115, but it wasn’t before Middlesex’s Umesh Valjee top-scored with an unbeaten 30.
He fended off fellow Middlesex player, James Nordin, who shone – taking 5/27 off his four overs, ripping through Pirates.
Despite Nordin’s extraordinary efforts, it wasn’t a match-winning performance as Black Cats were all out in the 18th over for 86, handing Pirates the 29-run victory.
HAWKS V PIRATES
Pirates won back-to-back matches, defeating Hawks by seven runs via the DLS method.
Hawks stuck their opponents in and Pirates made them pay as they posted 152/5 in their 20 overs – with their captain Anthony Clapham leading the way with 74 runs off 52 balls.
Sammy Kumar picked up a single wicket and fellow Middlesex player Sue Benson unfortunately went wicketless.
Hawks skipper Josh Price top-scored with 56. Middlesex bowlers Farooq Mohammed (2/17) and Jaidev Charan (2/21) were the pick of the Pirates attack as they restricted their opponents to 116/7 in 15 overs to help secure the win for their side.
TRIDENTS V BLACK CATS
Tridents recorded the highest score in DPL history at the weekend as they posted 211/4 in their innings.
Liam O’Brien muscled 89 not out off just 34 balls in an innings which contained eight fours and six sixes, whilst Gregor McKenzie managed 74 off 52 balls at the top of the innings.
Mike O’Mahoney took 2/30 and Dan Reynaldo picked up 1/34.
In response, nobody in the Black Cats side made a score of note, although Middlesex’s George Greenway did make 10 runs as they posted 111/6 in 15 overs chasing a revised target of 170.
The DPL continues next weekend when the competition heads north to Neston Cricket Club in the Wirral.
