Middlesex Cricket is today delighted to announce that young Academy graduate, Nathan Fernandes, has been awarded his first professional contract with the Club, and has signed terms on a two-year rookie contract.
Fernandes, just 18, is the latest player to come through the Club’s Elite Player Group pathway programme and has signed a contract which will see him committed to Middlesex until at least the end of the 2024 season.
The aggressive left-handed batter and left-arm orthodox spinner has played through the Middlesex County Age Group system from Under 12’s through to under 19’s level, has represented the ECB in Under 15’s regional sides and in the Elite Player Development programme at Under 18’s level, and more recently has represented England Young Lions in both 2021 and 2022.
Since 2019 he has represented the Club’s Second Eleven, making 16 Second appearances in the Second Eleven Championship and Second Eleven T20 competitions over the last two seasons.
His rookie contract enables him to continue his Business and Management studies at Royal Holloway University whilst also playing professionally for Middlesex when available alongside his educational commitments.
On Fernandes signing professional terms with the Club, Middlesex’s Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, commented:
“We are thrilled to be able to offer Nathan a contract for the next two seasons.
“He is a player who has been in our County Age Group system for many years and has excelled in our Elite Player Group programme in recent years. He is a huge talent who has a very bright future in the game ahead of him.
“He works extremely hard at his game, continues to grow as both a batter and spin bowler, and as a left-armer offers us something different. We are very much looking forward to seeing his game continue to develop over the next two seasons.”
Fernandes himself commented:
“‘I am delighted to have signed my first rookie contract with Middlesex Cricket and am very grateful to have been given this opportunity”.
