SQUAD & PREVIEW | SURREY V MIDDLESEX | COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

SQUAD & PREVIEW | SURREY V MIDDLESEX | COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Middlesex return to LV= Insurance County Championship action tomorrow when they take on Surrey at the Kia Oval in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

The Seaxes go into the game feeling refreshed after a Bank Holiday weekend off following back-to-back wins over Nottinghamshire and Kent at Lord’s.

Surrey managed to hang on and draw their encounter against Essex last weekend at the Cloud Ground in Chelmsford, surviving a torrid spell from spinner Simon Harmer late on day four.

The eight points Surrey earned from that draw saw them cement their place at the top of the Division One table, alongside Warwickshire on 60 points, whilst Middlesex’s two successive wins have taken them to fifth in the table, on 45 points.

Both Ryan Higgins and Ethan Bamber were named in the Professional Cricketers’ Association’s Player of the Month team for April and the pair will be looking to build on impressive displays in the opening month. Higgins amassed 327 runs and claimed 12 wickets in the opening four fixtures, notching four crucial first innings half-centuries – one in each match played so far. Bamber weighed in with sixteen wickets in April at an average of a little over 15, having played in three of Middlesex’s four matches.

Middlesex name an unchanged squad for their return to action this week, with Captain, Toby Roland-Jones, who was rested for the Kent clash, expected to make a return to the side.

Throughout this match, Surrey and Middlesex will put their rivalry aside to support Surrey bowler, Matt Dunn, and his wife Jessica, who tragically lost their daughter Florence at the age of two years-old at the beginning of March. Florence lived with Dravet Syndrome – a rare form of epilepsy.

On day one of the contest between the two London sides, Dunn and a team of runners will head from Lord’s to The Kia Oval, arriving in front of the Micky Stewart Members’ Pavilion during the lunch break of the fixture.

Dunn will be presented with signed commemorative caps worn by every member of the starting XI from both sides, that will be auctioned to raise funds to support the family’s fundraising effort. Both teams will also wear special t-shirts in the warm-up to the match that celebrate the life of Florence.

Don’t forget that on day three (Saturday 13 May), Middlesex will be hosting their next Walk | Talk | Connect event prior to the start of play. More details can be found HERE.
