On Sunday 11th June, a Middlesex Cricket side, comprising players from Graces Cricket Club, celebrated Pride Month in style by securing victory in the first ever LGBTQ+ Cricket Festival, hosted at Sutton Coldfield Cricket Club.
Six counties were represented on the day, with Middlesex joining sides from the counties of Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire & Worcestershire, in a day of competitive T10 eight-a-side action.
The day began with a round-robin group stage format, with Middlesex securing victories over Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire, and Worcestershire to secure their place in the Grand Final, as the only unbeaten side on the day.
With Middlesex scheduled to play host county Warwickshire in the Grand Final, who had themselves lost just one of their games, the sides were forced to sit and watch the heavens open, as thunder and lightning put paid to any hope of the showpiece finalé to the day!
With the weather cancelling any further plans for the day, Middlesex’s unbeaten record saw them awarded the title, with the Seaxes crowned Champions.
The Club would like to thank all at the Warwickshire Cricket Board for organising such an incredible event, weather aside, and to all at Sutton Coldfield for hosting what was a fantastic day on inclusive cricket.
We look forward to defending our title next summer.
