MIDDLESEX JUNIORS PILE ON THE RUNS IN AUGUST

MIDDLESEX JUNIORS PILE ON THE RUNS IN AUGUST

Middlesex’s young guns have scored a glut of runs during the month of August, with a number of academy stars showing their credentials, racking up the centuries along the way.

In fact, there have been two double-centuries – with both Seb Morgan and Rhys Lewis attracting attention.

Lewis, who is currently representing England’s Young Lions in an Invitational Eleven against Australia, notched 200 not out against Surrey Under-18s at LSE New Malden last week, in an innings which oozed class, and included 17 fours as well as six sixes!

Morgan’s innings of 200 came yesterday against Essex Under-16s during the second day of their two-day match at Billericay Cricket Club. He faced 256 balls – striking 22 fours and one six in the process.

One name to keep an eye on for the future is 16-year-old James Isbell, who has hit three centuries in the past week for the county; two against Essex and the other coming against Sussex.

He supported Morgan yesterday, with 126 from 123 deliveries, finding the rope 16 times. Their second-wicket stand was worth 245 as Middlesex went on to post 419/4 declared in 81.5 overs.

His other two tons came in white-ball cricket, with his highest of 117 coming in the 96-run against Sussex at Blackstone Academy. 14 boundaries were scored in this innings.

His other century, which turned out to be in vain, came at Eastcote Cricket Club, against Essex – coming off 102 balls, 11 of which were crashed to the boundary.

One final knock of note was Nathan Fernandes’ score in the Under-18s’ ongoing fixture against Sussex at Merchant Taylors’ School. Fernandes, who is in the professional squad, was 109 not out at the time of writing and had struck 16 fours in his innings.

Congratulations to all from everyone at Middlesex Cricket.
