Middlesex Cricket is delighted to announce that Josh De Caires has signed a contract extension until the end of the 2025 season.
The right-handed off-spinning all-rounder, 21, signed his first professional contract with Middlesex in 2020, and made his professional debuts for the Club in all three competitive formats the following season.
He has since made 34 appearances for the Club in all formats, with a highest score of 80, scored against Derbyshire when opening the batting alongside Mark Stoneman in the County Championship in 2022.
This season it’s with the ball that De Caires has been a revelation however, with him batting down the order, yet playing a vital role for the side with his right-arm off-spin, picking up 27 first-class wickets at an average of just 25 in just 8 games. The 8 for 106 he claimed against Essex at Chelmsford saw him finish the season with the best bowling figures for any bowler in an innings the County Championship, closely followed by the 7 for 144 he took against Hampshire down at the Ageas Bowl earlier in the season.
Alan Coleman, Middlesex’s Director of Cricket, commented:
“Josh has been exceptional this year and has really stepped up to fulfil an important role for Middlesex that prior to this season was pretty alien to him.
“Coming into the side as a batter two years ago, its testament to how hard Josh works at his game, that he has been able to continue to develop his batting, whilst also working closely with the coaching staff to develop his off-spin.
“He is now an important part of this Middlesex side, has a really bright future ahead of him, and thoroughly deserves the opportunity he has earned to show the England selectors exactly what he can do, having been selected to tour to the UAE next month with the England Lions.
“We look forward to seeing Josh’s game continue to develop over the next couple of seasons and are excited about what the future holds for him.”
On committing the next two years of his career to Middlesex, De Caires himself added:
“I’m really grateful to be given the opportunity to continue to represent Middlesex for the next couple of years.
“I look forward to trying my best to hopefully contributing towards success for the club next year and in the future.”
