FORMER MIDDLESEX CRICKETER BOB WHITE PASSES AWAY

ROBERT ARTHUR WHITE - 1936 TO 2023

All at Middlesex Cricket are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Bob 'knocker' White, aged 87, who represented the Club between the years of 1958 and 1965.

He was born in Fulham on 6th October 1936 and joined the Lord's staff at the age of just 15 before doing his national service in 1956, mainly overseas in Cyprus.

He made his professional debut for Middlesex in 1958 against Nottinghamshire at Lord's, and played primarily as a batter for Middlesex, despite being a very useful off-spinner.

He went on to make 114 First-Class appearances for Middlesex in his career, scoring 4,140 runs for the Club at an average of 24.79, with a highest score of 108* and a season best of 1,355 runs in 1963 - the year he was capped by Middlesex.

With Fred Titmus locking down the off-spinners' slot at the Club throughout Bob's time at Middlesex, opportunities for him to showcase his off-spin were limited, with him bowling only 45 deliveries in the eight years he spent at Middlesex.

In 1959 he left to join Nottinghamshire, where his bowling came to the fore, taking an incredible 693 first-class wickets for his new county, and bowling over 47,000 deliveries in a career that spanned the years 1966 to 1980..

Post his playing career White went on the become a very well established umpire in the First-Class game - officiating for almost two decades in the professional game, between 1983 and 2001.

The thoughts and prayers of all at Middlesex Cricket are with Bob's family and many friends at this saddest of times.
