In partnership with Capital Kids Cricket, Middlesex in the Community, Middlesex Cricket’s new charitable foundation, recently ran its inaugural Ramadan Cup.
The indoor tournament, which was run at the Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy, Tower Hamlets, saw six teams from the local community competing, with over 40 players involved, and was eventually won by champions London Eagles, who overcame the Bengal Gladiators in a hotly contested final to lift the trophy.
The competition brought members of the local community together during Ramadan, from different faiths, and provided a perfect opportunity for the participants to play, socialise, pray together, and break the fast together at the conclusion of the competition.
The tournament also provided players with a terrific warm-up for the upcoming Victoria Park Community Cricket League, a league that Middlesex in the Community will also be supporting this year with our delivery partners, Capital Kids Cricket.
Angus Fraser, Managing Director of Middlesex in the Community, commented: “We were thrilled with the success of the inaugural Ramadan Cup and to see so many players from the local community coming together to take part during Ramadan was incredible.
“There is a real passion for cricket in Tower Hamlets and its an area that we will be focussing a lot of effort on moving forwards, as providing opportunities for the communities that live here to play cricket and come together as a community is hugely important.
“Our thanks go to all at Capital Kids Cricket for partnering with us on the competition and we look forward to seeing more sides competing in the tournament again next year.”
