MIDDLESEX CRICKET ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENTS TO THE CLUB’S BOARD

Middlesex Cricket is today delighted to announce the appointment of one new Director and two new Observers to the Club’s Board.

Firstly, Andy Hunt, joins the Club as a newly appointed Board Director.

Andy joins the Club with over thirty years of experience in international sport, having previously held roles as the CEO of World Sailing (the International Federation for the Sport of Sailing), CEO of the British Olympic Association, CEO of Team GB, and Chef de Mission for Team GB at Vancouver 2010 and London 2012.

He is the current CEO of Podium Analytics, a charity that seeks to significantly reduce the incidence and impact of injury in youth and grassroots sport, and serves as a Non-Executive Director of Gloucester Rugby, having previously held the same role at England Hockey until 2023.

On taking on his new role as Director at Middlesex Cricket, Andy commented:

“I am honoured and delighted to be appointed to the Board of Middlesex County Cricket Club. I’m looking forward to working with my Board colleagues and in support of the Executive Team, bringing to bear my experience and knowledge to help ensure that MCCC can thrive”.

Also joining the Middlesex Board, as Observers, are Asif Ahmed and Phil Stokes.

Asif joins the Club with over twenty years’ experience in financial rigour, governance and best practice and is a Partner and Head of Early-Stage, Tech and High Growth at accounting firm, Cooper Parry.

He qualified as a Chartered Accountant from Pricewaterhouse Coopers, before establishing and growing a successful advisory firm that was acquired at the end of 2022.

He has been appointed to various Government Boards and Consultative Committees at both HM Revenue & Customs and HM Treasury and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is a passionate sportsman, having played both cricket and rugby in his former years and is a current member of MCC.

On his appointment as an Observer to the Middlesex Board, Asif said:

“It is an honour to be asked to join the Board as an Observer under the Chairmanship of Richard Sykes and Executive Leadership of Andrew Cornish. The Club, in its professional and recreational guise holds a special place in my heart and stands at the altar of a new, exciting future - One that I am excited to play a role in shaping.”

Phil Stokes also joins the Board as an Observer and will Chair the Club’s Finance, Risk and Audit Committee. He has an extensive background in working with and auditing media, entertainment, sports and leisure organisations.

Up until his retirement at the end of 2023, he was a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers, and advised companies and charities on financial controls, risk management, corporate governance and financial reporting.

He led PwC’s entertainment and media industry group in the UK for 12 years to 2017 and its EMEA Telecoms, Media and Technology practice from 2011 to 2015.He also founded and led the firm’s global Digital Transformation group, responding to the impact of new technologies and changing consumer behaviours across all industries.

Phil is a Governor at the British Film Institute, where he chairs the Audit, Risk and Governance Committee, a Trustee of Groundwork London, a school governor, and was a Commissioner on the Durham Commission on skills and teaching for creativity.

On becoming a Board Observer with Middlesex Cricket, Phil stated:

"I'm very much looking forward to working with the Board and members through the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee."

On announcing the three new appointments to the Club’s Board, Chair Richard Sykes, commented:

“We are very excited to have three new appointments of such high calibre joining the Middlesex Board. The qualities, knowledge and skills they collectively bring to the Board complement perfectly what we already have in place and they will add expertise where it is needed.

“We are very much looking forward to working closely with the three of them moving forwards in what is an exciting period for Middlesex Cricket and the wider game.

“I would like to personally welcome Andy, Asif and Phil to the Club and am sure that they will be looking forward to making themselves known to our members in the coming weeks and months.”
