Middlesex’s D40 First Eleven moved to the top of the Quest League table with a comprehensive win over Sussex at Ansty Cricket Club at the weekend, securing their second straight win in the competition.
Two players shone on the day for Middlesex – one with the bat and one with the ball!
Captain George Greenway batted beautifully for a magnificent quickfire hundred, having been put into bat by hosts Sussex. He hit an incredible 115 off just 68 deliveries, at a strike rate of 169.10, in an innings that included nine maximums and a further nine boundaries.
Runs also came from the willow of James Nordin, who added a useful 46 from 36 balls in the middle order, to help Middlesex post an imposing total of 241 for 9 in our forty overs, which was always going to be tough to chase.
It was James Nordin who starred with the ball, topping off a terrific day for the seaming all-rounder, as he picked up the wickets of five of the top seven Sussex batters, to finish with stunning figures of 5 for 15 from 7 economical overs.
He was well supported by Sammy Kumar and Matt Jones, who picked up two wickets apiece, with Moazzam Rashid collecting the other, as Sussex were bowled out for just 89 in reply.
It was a truly dominant performance from Middlesex, with Middlesex winning by 152 runs, and they now sit proudly on top of the table after three games, unbeaten, with two wins, after their opening clash against Yorkshire was rained off.
Next up for the D40 First Eleven is a home clash against Cricket Wales, who sit one off the bottom of the table without a win yet.
