Middlesex women kicked off their 50-over London Championship campaign with a nail biting 1-wicket victory over Kent.
Having won the toss and electing to bowl, in overcast conditions at Mill Hill school, miserly spells from Layla Judge (0/29), Sonali Patel (1/26) and Jenny Blofield (1/18), made scoring difficult for the visitors.
Patel picked up the games’ first wicket as Wright was caught behind. Further dot ball pressure led to Artemis Downer running out Hobson.
Middlesex continued to apply pressure to the Kent batters, as they slowly kept the scoreboard ticking over, with Lauren Turner (2/10) and Anisha Dissanayake (2/26) picking up two wickets apiece.
A patient 51 not out from Jeer off 123 balls led to the visitors finishing their 50 overs on 143/8.
Middlesex began their run chase well wish Saskia Horley hitting several boundaries in her quickfire 21, however wickets fell quickly for the Seaxes in the middle order, with Natasha Miles, Lucy Porter and Georgia Irving failing to trouble the scorers.
Runs from Lou Poulter (35) and Jenny Bloefeld (14) steadied the ship for Middlesex, however a mix up in the middle caused Bloefeld to be run out, bringing an end to their promising partnership.
A swing in momentum caused Kent to pick up a flurry of wickets leaving Middlesex requiring 25 runs to win with just one wicket in hand.
With plenty of overs remaining, a patient 10th wicket stand from Nish Dissanayake and Layla Judge pushed Middlesex over the line in the 37th over completing a sensational 1-wicket victory.
