WREATHS LAID IN MCC MUSEUM TO MARK D-DAY 80TH ANNIVERSARY

MIDDLESEX AND MCC CEO'S LAY WREATHS ON WAR MEMORIAL IN MCC MUSEUM TO MARK 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY

On 6 June 1944, allied forces launched a combined naval, air, and land assault on Nazi-occupied France.

The Normandy Landings, codenamed Operation Overlord, marked the start of the allied campaign to liberate northwest Europe from Nazi occupation.

Allied airborne forces parachuted into drop zones across northern France. Ground troops then landed across five assault beaches: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. By the end of the day, the allies had established a foothold along the coast and could begin their advance into France.

Earlier this week, on Thursday 6th June, to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the flags at Lord's flew at half mast throughout the double-header fixture featuring both Middlesex and Sunrisers.

Also, prior to the first game commencing, Middlesex Cricket's Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Cornish, and MCC's Chief Executive Officer, Guy Lavender, both laid wreaths on the war memorial in the MCC Museum at Lord's.
