MARTIN ANDERSSON TO LEAVE MIDDLESEX AND JOIN DERBYSHIRE AT END OF SEASON

MARTIN ANDERSSON TO LEAVE MIDDLESEX AT END OF SEASON TO JOIN DERBYSHIRE

Middlesex Cricket can today announce that all-rounder Martin Andersson will leave the club at the end of the season and has signed a contract with Derbyshire for next season.

Andersson is a product of the Middlesex Academy and signed his first professional contract with the Club in 2016 – on summer terms that allowed him to continue his university studies whilst also playing for the Club outside of term time.

Prior to that, Andersson featured in Berkshire’s age-group sides at Under 14, Under 15 and Under 17 levels, before joining Middlesex’s Academy in 2013.

He made his professional debut for Middlesex in August 2018 against Sussex in the Vitality Blast, before making his first-class debut the following month against Kent at Lord’s, with his List-A debut coming in August 2021 against Worcestershire at New Road.

He has since gone on to represent the Club’s First Eleven on 94 occasions, hitting 2,089 runs and taking 106 wickets across all three formats of the game.

Speaking of Andersson leaving the Club to join Derbyshire, the Club’s Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, commented:

“Martin is at a stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular first team cricket, and joining Derbyshire will give him that opportunity.

“He has been a terrific servant to the Club since joining our Academy over a decade ago and has proven over that time that he has what it takes to succeed in all forms of the game.

“He has performed admirably for us in recent seasons in both white-ball formats of the game, however opportunities over the last three years have been limited for him in our County Championship side. I hope at Derbyshire he is given the opportunity to compete across all three formats and take his game to the next level.

“Our thanks go to Martin for all he has contributed to Middlesex Cricket over the years, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”

On leaving Middlesex and joining Derbyshire, Andersson said:

“Middlesex has been my cricketing home since I was just 14 years old, and it was not a decision I took lightly to move my career in a different direction.

“The club has always supported me both on and off the field and that is something I will forever be grateful for.

“I will always cherish the relationships I have made over the years with teammates, coaches and support staff at the club.”
