Middlesex Women fell to a six-wicket defeat against neighbours Surrey on Sunday at Mill Hill School in the ECB Women’s 50-over Competition.
Having won the toss and electing to bowl, Surrey got off to a dream start picking up the valuable wicket of Saskia Horley for two in the second over. Issy Routledge and Georgia Irving managed to settle down and relieve the early pressure applied to the side, as the duo conservatively built a 43-run partnership. However, the partnership was bought to an abrupt end when Issy Routledge was run out for 18 attempting to scamper a second run. Momentum quickly swung in favour of Surrey as they picked up the third wicket of Sonali Patel for just one run.
Despite Georgia Irving digging in and trying to rescue the Middlesex Innings, she was adjudged LBW by Cooper for 22. Artemis Downer provided some resistance for the Seaxes however her 17 wasn't enough as run support from the tail was amiss with Middlesex dismissed for 94 off 29 overs.
With a low score on the board, it would have taken a superb bowling performance from Middlesex to rescue the points, however the start they desired never came as the Surrey openers put on 48 runs for their opening partnership. One bought two as Bhavika Gajipra swiftly picked up her second wicket bowling Madeline Blinkhorn-Jones for one.
There was a quickfire half-century from wicketkeeper-batter Kira Chathli which bought the visitors within touching distance of their target. She retired out on 53 runs off just 33 balls, in an innings which included nine boundaries. Anisha Dissanayake did pick up a third wicket for the Seaxes when Amy Gordon was caught by Lauren Turner.
Surrey chased down their target in the 18th over with a boundary from Johal.
