After piloting 2 successful programs in 2023 and receiving great feedback from participants, Middlesex in The Community (MITC) are pleased to partner with GLL to introduce Walking Cricket across Middlesex.
MITC believe in making the game accessible to all, irrespective of age, and what better way than to partner with GLL, who manage many of the leisure centres across Middlesex, offering many different sports that sadly didn’t include cricket for their senior members.
The values of our two organisations align, in using the power of sport to bring together people of all ages and background to play in a safe and fun environment.
From our pilot program last year, friendship stood out as one of the key elements as to why people attended the session. Especially for those participants who were grieving the loss of their partner/spouse. Walking cricket helped them find a new sense of belonging and a community, as well as helping attendees overcome the feeling of loneliness.
We are excited to announce we will be starting the first of many Walking Cricket programmes at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre every week on Thursdays, starting from today, with the sessions running from 10am to 11am.
Don’t worry, if this is too far for you to travel then we also have a new weekly session starting at Gunnersbury Park every Tuesday from 1pm to 2pm. For further information please contact: Ben Lett at [email protected]
And we're also running weekly sessions Queensbridge Sports & Community Centre in East London, at 30 Holly Street, Hackney, E8 3XW. Sessions starts from Wednesday 14th August and will run between 11am to 12noon. For further information please contact Daniel Paine at: [email protected]
We also have weekly sessions at Southbury Leisure, Enfield. For further information please visit GLL website: Senior Activities | Southbury Leisure Centre | Enfield | Better
