Merchant Taylors’ School held their nerve in a low scoring Final at Hornsey Cricket Club to claim a three wicket win in the Schools Cricket Association of Middlesex U19 Cup last Friday, the 28 June.
Bolder Academy could only post 96-6 in their 20 overs after electing to bat, but it almost proved to be enough as MTS inched home for the loss of seven wickets with just over an over remaining.
Bolder got off to a decent start, scoring 13 in the first couple of overs but their innings was pegged back by three fabulous catches from an energised MTS fielding side. After the loss of three wickets Gabilon and Ali batted calmly to move Bolder to a stronger position but both fell in quick succession as they looked to increase the scoring rate. The departure of the two in batters meant Bolder were a few runs light of a total that would seriously challenge MTS.
If Bolder were to put MTS under any sort of pressure early wickets would have been needed. And this is exactly what Bolder achieved as they claimed regular MTS wickets. Singh was the bowler responsible for keeping Bolder in the game, taking 4-16 in four excellent overs. With MTS under a bit of pressure and 30 runs still required Reyan held his nerve by scoring an unbeaten 32 in an eighth wicket stand that guided his side to their target.
Middlesex in the Community would like to thank Stephen Goldsmith for the role he played in organising and running this competition, and we look forward to being involved again in 2025.
