MCCL SET FOR THRILLING FINISH WITH PLENTY STILL TO BE DECIDED

MCCL SET FOR THRILLING FINISH WITH PLENTY STILL TO BE DECIDED

With three rounds of the Middlesex County Cricket League to go, things are hotting up across the First Eleven leagues.

In the Premier League, we are in a for a thrilling finale for a second year running as Shepherds Bush and Crouch End lead the way with a point separating them. Ealing and North Middlesex are still in the mix should either of the top two sides slip up in the remaining rounds.

It is worth noting that Crouch End entertain Shepherds Bush on the final day of the season (Saturday 7 September) as Ealing host North Middlesex.

At the other End of the table, Finchley are likely candidates to be relegated alongside Brondesbury who already know their fate. Finchley need to win all three of their upcoming matches to avoid the drop and bring Stanmore or Hornsey into the fold.

Hampstead have already been crowned champions of Division One, with Harrow St Mary’s, Wycombe House and Harrow Town fighting it out to be the side that joins them. At the other end of the table, Kenton and Barnes look likely to drop out down a division in 2025.

Division Two is heating up and Indian Gymkhana lead the way and only need one more win to secure the title. If Osterley win one of their last three games, then they could join Indian Gymkhana in Division One next year. Old Isleworthians have been relegated already and will go down alongside either Ealing Trailfinders or Wembley.

London Tigers have already clinched the Division Three crown and Chiswick are likely to go up alongside them. Brentham are close behind should they slip up.

Alexandra Park and Actonians are fighting it out at the bottom and the clash between them on 31 August could go a long to deciding each side’s fate.

In Division Four, Bessborough have gained promotion and can win the league on Saturday by beating nearest rivals Stoke Newington.

At the bottom it is a case of two from five to be relegated. 15 points separate the five clubs and with there being plenty of matches to be played amongst each other anything could happen. The biggest game, however, looks to be between Kensington & Chelsea and New Calypsonoians, which takes place on 31 August.

North London Muslims have been the dominant side in Division Five and could secure the title this weekend when they play the already relegated Youth Wing.

A win in any of their three remaining games would guarantee promotion. The title will still need to be fought for as South Harrow, their closest rivals, sit just three points behind them. Both teams all but in Division 4 in 2025 but who goes up as champions is there to play for.

Priory Park and Youth Wing have both had disappointing seasons and will spend 2025 in Division Six.

London Desperados have secured more points than any other MCCL First Eleven club in 2024 but they are not yet guaranteed promotion from Division Six, let alone become league champions. This is because United Sports and Ealing Three Bridges have had excellent seasons too.

London Desperados can seal promotion this weekend if the defeat Regents Park. United Sports are seven points ahead of Ealing Three Bridges but with all the games being limited over matches it would only take one slip up to let their rivals in.

At the bottom, a winless Burhani have been relegated.

Harlington Meadows are on the verge of being promoted from Division Seven – a win over Kingsmen on Saturday would secure them a place in Division Six in 2025.
